Tottenham are thought to be closing in on a loan move for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet, though it is unclear whether they will ultimately pull the trigger on any deal.
Antonio Conte is keen to strengthen his backline this summer and has been linked to a whole host of left-footed centre-backs, but deals for high-profile targets such as Josko Gvardiol and Alessandro Bastoni have proved problematic, with both players expressing a desire to remain at their current clubs until next season and perhaps beyond.

“Yes, we’ve reached an agreement to extend Simone Inzaghi’s contract”, he added.

As a result, they are exploring other options, and Lenglet is one of those.
In a Q&A, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed that one of the advantages of Lenglet was his versatility, but that he is likely to be a backup option should Spurs not land their top targets.
‘He’s versatile and can cover both the left-sided and central roles in a back three’, he revealed. ‘From what I understand, the experienced Frenchman would be a back-up option if Tottenham feel they can’t get the players at the top of their centre-back wish list this summer.’
So who is their first choice option?
At the beginning of the summer, it was reported that Spurs had drawn up a four-man shortlist for the left-centre back position. As per The Athletic, those consisted of Bastoni and Gvardiol, as well as Nico Schlotterbeck and Sven Botman, both of whom have since transferred already this summer.
This has left Tottenham a little short of options, but one which they are considering is Villareal defender Pau Torres, who has a release clause in the region of 55m to 60m euros should any club wish to sign him.

It seems, for now, as though Lenglet could be the most likely arrival however.
