‘happy to wait until 2023’ for midfield additions

Liverpool agree third and final summer signing: ‘happy to wait until 2023’ for midfield additions

Liverpool are set to make their third signing of the summer in the form of Calvin Ramsay, with the Scot set to make the switch to Anfield from Aberdeen.

The 18-year-old defender is expected to join in a deal worth £4m, with an extra £2.5m in add-ons should he perform as expected.

He is set to provide cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right flank, and it will raise further questions about the future of fellow defender Joe Gomez, who has two years left on his current deal at Anfield.

It will become Jurgen Klopp’s third addition, with Fabio Carvalho having already joined from Fulham and Darwin Nunez having arrived for a club-record fee from Benfica as the Reds look to freshen up their frontline.

Prepared to wait for midfield additions

However, in what could perhaps be less good news for Liverpool fans, the Reds are reportedly happy to wait until next summer for midfield reinforcements.

James Milner penned a one-year contract extension at the beginning of the summer, but beyond that there is set to be little movement in the centre of the pitch, with significant departures seemingly unlikely given that the midfield berths are already somewhat undermanned.

Thiago and Fabinho remain World Class operators, but there are question marks over the Spaniard’s injury record, and the midfield is certainly Liverpool’s weakest area, with both Jordan Henderson and Milner now the wrong side of 30, and Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain having flattered to deceive since arriving at Anfield.

It could prove a rare miscalculation by Jurgen Klopp and his side, but should the talent not be available this summer, he may be forced to wait.
