Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have been eliminated from the CAF Women’s Champions League after losing 2-0 to defending champions AS FAR in their decisive Group B match on Sunday.
The result ended their hopes of reaching the semi-finals for the first time since 2023. Ampem Darkoa missed out on qualification on head-to-head rules, while AS FAR progressed to the last four alongside Group B debutants Kawempe Muslim Ladies.
Charles Anokye Frimpong’s team needed only a draw to secure a semi-final place. Frimpong made one change to his starting XI, bringing Asana Hamidu into the side in place of Victoria Banful.
Ampem Darkoa were largely forced to defend during the opening half, but held firm against the Moroccan champions. Goalkeeper Rose Teye Baah played a central role in keeping the scores level, saving a penalty in stoppage time before the interval.
The sides went into half-time at 0-0, but Ampem Darkoa’s resistance was tested immediately after the restart.
Baah was shown a red card for a reckless challenge inside the penalty area, giving AS FAR another chance from the spot. Ghizlane Chebbak converted from 12 yards to put the defending champions in front.
Despite being reduced to 10 players, Ampem Darkoa pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Rebecca Assemani had an opportunity to bring the Ghanaian champions level but was unable to take advantage of it.
AS FAR secured the victory in the closing stages after capitalising on a defensive mistake to score a second goal.
The defeat brought Ampem Darkoa’s campaign to an end at the group stage, while AS FAR and Kawempe Muslim Ladies advanced to the semi-finals.
