A GFA delegation visited her family on Tuesday, November 3. The Association said afterwards that it was working with the Ghana Police Service “to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book and that justice is served”.

Through its Ashanti regional office, the GFA also offered assistance to provide what it described as “a befitting burial”. It said it would remain in contact with both the family and the authorities, while honouring Takyiwaa’s contribution to women’s football.

Police said on Saturday, October 31, that Peter Nchor Asadigina, 21, and Mudasel Dramani, 19, had been arrested over the killing of a woman tricycle rider at Afrancho, near Konkoli.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspects hired the rider at Ampabame Lorry Station in Kumasi on October 29 for a journey to Afrancho. Police allege that they attacked and killed her there before driving away on her green Bajaj tricycle.

The pair were arrested the following day at Hansua, near Techiman in the Bono East Region, after police received information about their whereabouts. Police said they were travelling towards Techiman, where they reportedly planned to settle and use the tricycle for commercial work.

Officers recovered a number plate, three SIM cards, a MiFi device, a jackknife cover and eight mobile phones. One of the phones, an iPhone 12 Pro, is believed to have belonged to the victim.

Takyiwaa’s body remains at the mortuary awaiting an autopsy. The suspects are assisting with investigations and, by Wednesday, had not been reported to have appeared in court.

Although the police statement did not identify the dead rider, the date, location and arrests correspond with information provided by Takyiwaa’s family and Fabulous Ladies.

Club official Augustine Nana Atuahene said the suspects were traced to Techiman through the location of Takyiwaa’s stolen phone. Fabulous Ladies had previously said she was carrying a female passenger to Afrancho New Site at about 10:30pm when attackers attempted to take the tricycle. The police account says the two suspects themselves hired her.

Takyiwaa had reportedly completed training before going out to work on her tricycle, commonly known as a pragya. She was preparing with Fabulous Ladies for the 2026/27 Women’s Division One League campaign.

Her parents, Nana Kwaku Nimrah and Akosua Brago, told the Daily Guide that she hoped to become a professional footballer. They gave her name as Agartha Owusu Ansah, with friends calling her “One Cedis”.

“Our players are registered as amateurs not professionals so we support them with only transportation cost,” Atuahene said in a radio interview.

Fabulous Ladies reached the final of the first Women’s FA Cup in 2016. GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku’s personal support was conveyed to the family by the delegation.

Takyiwaa’s parents have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, the Attorney-General and their MP, Kofi Amankwa-Manu of Atwima Kwanwoma, to ensure everyone responsible faces the law. They also urged police and the courts to handle the case professionally and resist money or outside pressure.

Executive Council members Dr Gifty Oware-Mensah and Frederick Acheampong led the GFA delegation, alongside Ashanti RFA officials and Fabulous Ladies president Habiba Atta Forson.
