The Essipong Stadium in Sekondi will stage Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Somalia after receiving temporary approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku confirmed the venue on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during a meeting between the GFA Executive Council and Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports.
The Black Stars will face Somalia in the first leg at Essipong Stadium on November 12, before the return fixture is played at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 16.
Essipong has undergone renovation work as part of efforts to bring its facilities in line with international standards. The stadium was also recently approved by CAF to host the Black Queens’ Olympic Games qualifier against Mauritius.
That decision represented a further step in the venue’s return to hosting international football.
Somalia will use the Accra Sports Stadium for their home fixture after being granted permission to play there because they do not have a CAF-approved stadium.
Ghana are bottom of Group C without a point after losing their opening two matches of the qualifying campaign.
The two games against Somalia provide the Black Stars with an important opportunity to recover their position in the group and maintain their hopes of reaching the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
