FC AshantiGold 04 chief executive officer Edward Kwasi Akuoko says the club’s poor results away from home and reported disagreements within the technical team contributed to the decision to dismiss head coach Karim Zito.
Zito, assistant coach Ernest Okyere and goalkeepers’ trainer Robert Dabuo were removed from their positions with immediate effect on Tuesday, 27 October.
The Ghana Premier League club said an interim technical team would oversee first-team affairs until a new head coach is appointed.
Akuoko said management had expected greater consistency from AshantiGold, despite the club’s status as a newly promoted side.
“As a serious club, you always want to win. I’m not a leader who always lowers expectations just because we are a newly promoted side,” he told Kumasi-based Obaapa Radio.
“We are not saying we have to win the league at all costs, but we simply want consistent results. Our away performances have been poor.”
AshantiGold have made an uneven return to the top flight, winning three, losing three and drawing two of their opening eight matches in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
Those results have left the club 10th in the table on 11 points, with the side struggling to build momentum in the early stages of the campaign.
Akuoko also said he had received reports suggesting there were strained relationships among members of the coaching staff led by Zito.
“The second reason is that, personally, I received reports that the technical team led by Karim Zito were not on good terms, and that could be affecting our results,” he added.
AshantiGold’s first match since the changes will be an away meeting with Swedru All Blacks in Matchday Nine on Sunday.
The game will be played at the Swedru Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 15:00 GMT.
