Ghana’s Black Maidens have reached the knockout stage of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after beating Canada 2-0.
The decisive Group result was settled in the second half after neither side could break the deadlock before the interval. Both teams struggled to create a breakthrough during a goalless opening 45 minutes.
Ghana took the lead in the 65th minute when Linda Achiaa found the net, putting the Black Maidens in control of the match.
Canada attempted to respond, but Ghana remained disciplined and protected their advantage. Ashiaku then added a second goal in the 90th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
The Canadians continued to look for a way back into the game, but Ghana held firm to secure all three points and confirm their progress to the next round.
The victory means Ghana finish second in their group with four points. Brazil top the standings on seven points.
The Black Maidens will now prepare for the knockout stage, where they will look to build on their performance against Canada and continue Ghana’s pursuit of success at the global youth tournament.
