Broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi says he would support former Black Stars captain Andre ‘Dede’ Ayew if the footballer decides to stand for president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Sefa Kayi believes Ghanaian football requires a change in leadership, with new ideas needed to help reverse the sport’s declining fortunes.
Speaking during a light-hearted discussion with sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning Show, he said he hoped Ayew would announce his intentions soon to build momentum behind a potential campaign.
The broadcaster also urged the public to support Ayew if he does decide to contest the election, saying he would be watching developments closely.
“If he has not declared, then I am declaring for him. Kwaku, if Dede decides to contest, I will support him, and I wish everybody would do the same so that there will be changes,” Sefa Kayi said amid laughter during the segment.
“For this, I have declared that I am not saying I am biased. For this, I have an interest.”
Several media reports have linked Ayew with a possible bid for the GFA presidency, although the former Ghana captain has not confirmed that he intends to enter the race.
The 35-year-old has also not publicly rejected the speculation. His continued support for Ghana’s national teams and regular attendance at Ghana Premier League matches have added to suggestions that he may be considering a future role in football administration.
Ayew remains one of Ghana’s most recognisable football figures and previously captained the Black Stars. However, there has been no formal announcement from him regarding a possible candidacy for the GFA presidency.
