The United States will host the first Women’s Club World Cup from 5 to 30 January 2028, FIFA has confirmed.
The 19-team competition will be held every four years and is intended to mirror the expanded men’s Club World Cup.
Arsenal are among the seven clubs already confirmed for the tournament. Barcelona, Gotham, Club America, Corinthians, Naegohyang and Wuhan Jiangda have also secured places, while the remaining 12 participants will be announced later.
UEFA will choose six additional European teams. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Confederation of African Football (CAF), Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) and South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) will each provide three clubs. Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) will send one team.
“Ultimately, the United States’ recent excellence in staging top FIFA tournaments, combined with the significant interest in women’s football there plus its elite sporting infrastructure, made the country the standout option,” said FIFA’s chief women’s football officer Sarai Bareman.
The United States hosted the men’s Club World Cup in 2025 and co-hosted the men’s World Cup this summer with Mexico and Canada. It is also due to co-host the Women’s World Cup in 2031 alongside Costa Rica, Jamaica and Mexico.
“These seven clubs, and a dozen more, will come together to show the strength and depth of women’s club football to a global audience,” Bareman added.
“They will have the opportunity to tell their story, expand their fanbase and represent their club on the world stage. They have thoroughly earned this opportunity to be part of history in the United States.”
The announcement comes after the Women’s Super League raised concerns about the timing of the tournament. Earlier this year, the league described the Club World Cup schedule as potentially “catastrophic”.
The competition will be the second mid-season women’s tournament introduced by FIFA in recent years.
The first edition of the Champions Cup was staged in February and won by Arsenal.
