Hearts of Oak coach Nebojsa Kapor has told his players not to underestimate Basake Holy Stars as they aim for a third successive victory in the Ghana Premier League.
The Phobians welcome fifth-placed Holy Stars to the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday, 23 October. The Matchday Eight fixture is scheduled to begin at 17:00 GMT.
Hearts have climbed to second in the table after recording consecutive 1-0 wins against Vision FC and Port City. They are level on points with leaders Medeama SC, while Samartex FC sit third in a closely contested race at the top of the league.
Kapor, however, believes Holy Stars have already shown they are capable of causing problems and has called for a disciplined approach from his squad.
“Basake won games at home and collected a good number of points. So far, they did well, and we are approaching them as a very strong opponent. We are not going to think this game will be easy, never,” he said.
The Hearts coach also warned his players against assuming their league position makes them favourites. He said the correct mentality would be central to their performance against a side that has made a positive start to the campaign.
“Every game here is very difficult, especially from a mentality side; we have to face this game very tough. We are not going to say we are the better team and we will win. No, we are really going to approach them very deeply from every department, from every single player, and like this we will create awareness and good and quality tactics for this game,” Kapor added.
Shorter preparation period
Hearts’ preparations have been affected by a late change to the fixture schedule. The club had initially expected the match to take place on Sunday but were later informed that it had been brought forward to Friday.
Kapor acknowledged that the alteration had reduced the time available to prepare, although he believes his team can still complete sufficient tactical work before kick-off.
“A little surprise came because we expected this game to be on Sunday, but we got information that they are moving the game to Friday. So that is making a little short time for us, but also enough tactical sessions, and I’m sure we will prepare for this game nicely and put on a serious performance from our last game,” he said.
Hearts will attempt to extend their winning run and strengthen their position among the leading sides, while Holy Stars will seek to frustrate the hosts and maintain the momentum generated by their encouraging opening to the season.
