Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu says he could enter the race to become Ghana Football Association (GFA) president in 2027, although he has stressed that he has not yet decided whether to stand.
The 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup winner discussed the possibility in an interview with Accra-based Onua TV, where he confirmed that he remains eligible to contest the position.
“Don’t be surprised if I also decide to contest for the presidency, even though I have not made a decision yet,” Badu said.
His comments raise the prospect of the former Ghana international moving from football into administration, but he has not formally declared his candidacy or confirmed that he intends to seek the GFA presidency.
The next GFA presidential election is expected to take place in 2027. Badu’s remarks therefore leave open the possibility that he could become another contender for the leadership of Ghana football.
Badu established himself on the international stage as part of the Ghana team that won the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt. Ghana became the first African nation to claim the competition, marking a significant achievement in the country’s football history.
He later represented the senior national side, the Black Stars, during his playing career. His experience with both Ghana’s youth and senior teams could precede a possible move into the running of the sport, although no formal campaign has been announced.
The former midfielder is also described as an Udinese Calcio midfielder in the source interview, while his current position on the 2027 election remains undecided. For now, Badu has only indicated that he is considering a bid rather than confirming that he will participate.
Any decision to contest would mark a change from his playing career to a potential leadership role within Ghana football. However, until he makes an official declaration, his comments represent an indication of interest rather than a confirmed challenge for the GFA presidency.
