PSG agree to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino

French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement with Mauricio Pochettino that will see the Argentine leave his role ahead of the upcoming season after 18 months in charge, according to reports.

Pochettino joined PSG in January of 2021 and has endured a mixed stint at the club. PSG failed to retain their Ligue 1 crown during the 2020/21 campaign, though not all the blame can be put on Pochettino for that as he did join the club midway through a season.

2021/22, meanwhile, would see PSG win Ligue 1 once again. However, like many managers before him, it was Pochettino’s display in the Champions League that largely fuelled his exit from the French capital.

PSG took on Real Madrid in the last-16 earlier this year, taking a 1-0 lead into the second leg and then going 2-0 up on aggregate before bottling it and losing 3-2.

On the Argentine’s departure from PSG, it is reported that Pochettino met the PSG hierarchy last week to discuss the 2021/22 campaign, and it is understood the conversation produced a mutual decision that the former Tottenham boss will not continue in the Parc des Princes dugout, with both sides identifying a parting of ways to be the most sensible step.

Christophe Galtier of Nice is thought to be among various options PSG are looking at to replace Pochettino
