Endrick’s late goal secured a 1-1 draw for Lyon against Celta Vigo in the Europa League round of 16 first leg.
The Brazilian striker scored in the 87th minute, rescuing Lyon from a tight spot after Javier Rueda had opened the scoring for Celta Vigo in the 25th minute.
Lyon dominated possession and created several chances, but it was Celta Vigo who struck first through Rueda’s goal.
The Spanish side’s hopes were boosted by a red card for Lyon’s Borja Iglesias in the second half, leaving Lyon with a numerical advantage.
However, they struggled to capitalize on this advantage, and it was Endrick who finally broke the deadlock with a powerful shot.
The draw means Lyon will head into the second leg with a slight advantage, but Celta Vigo will be confident of overturning the deficit.
The second leg will take place on March 19 at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon.
Endrick’s goal was his fifth in his last six appearances for Lyon, showcasing his growing importance to the team.
Lyon coach Pierre Sage praised Endrick’s performance, highlighting his impact in big games.
“Endrick is a player who can change the game,” Sage said. “He’s been working hard, and it’s paying off”
Celta Vigo, on the other hand, will look to build on their strong showing and secure a place in the quarterfinals.
Coach Claudio Giráldez was pleased with his team’s performance, despite the late equalizer.
“We had chances to win the game, but Lyon scored late,” Giráldez said. “We’ll focus on the second leg and give it our all”.
The Europa League round of 16 promises more thrilling encounters, and Lyon vs Celta Vigo is one to watch.
