Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has urged referees to uphold better officiating standards following a few controversial moments in the domestic league.
His remarks follow incidents in the Ghana Premier League, including Kotoko’s disallowed goal against Bibiani GoldStars at Dun’s Park, refereed by Julian Nunoo.
Kurt’s comments underline the association’s focus on professionalizing officiating in Ghanaian football.
He highlighted ongoing initiatives to support referees through education, mentorship, and resources.
“Yes, I am also concerned about some of the few incidents that has been occurring,” Kurt told GFA Communications.
He explained, “I say few in relation of the quantum of games that are played every week over the entire duration of the season.”
The GFA boss emphasized the importance of minimizing errors, saying, “It is very important that we pay attention to those situations because we want a perfect situation even though we know as human as we are, there will always be wrong calls being made.”
He added, “The role of the FA is to make sure that there is continuous training for our referees [and] to provide them with the enabling environment.”
