Kotoko defender Patrick Asiedu slams Hearts of Oak’s style of play ahead of Super Clash

Asante Kotoko defender Patrick Asiedu has sparked debate ahead of their Ghana Premier League Super Clash against Accra Hearts of Oak, criticizing their opponents’ playing style as “Zongo Football” – a term used to describe a gritty, direct approach prioritizing physicality over possession and flair.

Asiedu’s comments come as the two teams prepare to face off at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, with Hearts currently fourth in the league and Kotoko fifth.

The term “Zongo Football” is often used by fans to describe a style that focuses on results over aesthetics.

“Accra Hearts of Oak don’t play attractive football — they’re known for playing what many call Zongo Football,” he told Oyerepa Sports.

Asiedu’s remarks have added extra spice to the rivalry, with some seeing it as a challenge to Hearts to prove their critics wrong.

The match promises to be intense, with Kotoko seeking redemption after a tough run of form and Hearts looking to consolidate their standing.
