Retired Ghanaian referee Thomas Nunoo has disclosed that he was once offered a bribe by football administrator Alhaji Karim Grusah while officiating in the Ghana Premier League.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Nunoo now a CAF and FIFA instructorsaid Grusah attempted to influence his decisions ahead of a top-flight match, but the veteran official refused and reported the incident to the Premier League Board, then chaired by Welbeck Abra-Appiah.
“During my days of officiating games, I never accepted a bribe or being compromised,” Nunoo stated. “The only person who tried to influence me by bribing me was Alhaji Grusah, but I reported him to the Premier League Board. He got angry because his club ended up losing the game, and we ended up arguing on the radio.”
Nunoo used the revelation to urge current referees to remain steadfast and to report any attempts to sway their decisions.
“I will urge all referees to be firm and not to accept any bribe or compromise from anyone. You can accept whatever an administrator wants to offer, but you should further report them to the Football Association,” he said.
Refereeing has become a major talking point in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, with stakeholders expressing growing concern over inconsistent performances by match officials.
