Ghanaian veteran Andre Ayew remains optimistic about NAC Breda’s chances of Eredivisie survival despite their 4-3 defeat to NEC Nijmegen at the Rat Verlegh Stadion.
The 36-year-old forward made his second appearance since joining NAC Breda in the winter transfer window, after missing the first half of the season following his departure from Le Havre. Although the loss keeps NAC in the relegation zone in 17th place, they remain just two points behind Telstar in the safe positions.
Ayew shared a message of encouragement after the match: “Team spirit, never stop fighting. We keep going.”
The game was a rollercoaster of goals. NEC struck early with Eli Dasa and Sami Ouaissi scoring within seven minutes to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage before the 20th minute. NAC fought back with Moussa Soumano netting twice in the 55th minute to level the score.
NEC regained the lead through Dirk Proper in the 69th minute, only for Boy Kemper to pull NAC level once again. The home side’s hopes were dashed in injury time when Kodai Sano scored in the 94th minute, sealing the 4-3 victory for NEC.
Despite the heartbreak, Ayew’s leadership and experience provide NAC Breda with encouragement as they look to climb out of the relegation zone in the coming fixtures.
