Nunoo admits son erred in Kotoko goal call

Retired Ghanaian referee Thomas Nunoo has revealed that his son, Julian Nunoo, is troubled by a key decision made during Asante Kotoko’s stalemate with Bibiani GoldStars.

The controversial moment came on Matchday 19 when Kotoko travelled to DUN’s Park to face the defending champions.

After a cagey opening half, Samba O’Neil thought he had broken the deadlock with a second-half header.

The celebration was cut short when referee Julian Nunoo penalised an alleged foul in the build-up. He ruled that GoldStars goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi had been impeded by his own teammate, leading to the goal being chalked off. The decision proved decisive as the contest ended goalless.

Kotoko supporters reacted angrily, with many questioning the officiating and demanding action. Speaking on the matter, Thomas Nunoo admitted the call was incorrect.

“My son Julian Nunoo is very much worried about his decision to disallow Asante Kotoko’s goal against Bibaini GoldStars,” he told Asempa FM.

“He had that decision wrong, and it was about his positioning on the pitch,” he added, as the GFA prepares to review the incident with match officials.
