Karim Zito Unfazed by Speculation Over Asante Kotoko Future

Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has played down growing speculation over his future at the club, insisting he remains calm despite reports linking his position to the team’s recent inconsistent results.

The Porcupine Warriors dropped two vital points on Sunday after being held by relegation-threatened Berekum Chelsea at the Baba Yara Stadium in their Matchday 18 fixture. The draw leaves Kotoko six points behind league leaders Medeama SC, further intensifying pressure at the club.

Ahead of the encounter, sections of the media reported that Kotoko’s hierarchy was discussing Zito’s future, following a run of mixed performances.

Addressing the issue after the match, the experienced tactician admitted he was aware of the rumours but insisted they do not distract him.

“I can’t speak about tomorrow because, as you’ve mentioned, there are reports that management wants me out. These recent results have made the situation more difficult, so if that is truly their intention, then the opportunity has presented itself now,” Zito said.

However, Zito was quick to clarify that no official communication has been made by the club regarding his position.

“I am free to go to Nsawam today. Throughout my coaching career, I have never been sacked, and I have neither seen nor heard anything from management suggesting they intend to appoint a new coach,” he added.

“Until the people who brought me here officially ask me to leave, I am not concerned about what is being said or reported on social media.”

Despite the mounting pressure, Zito will be hoping to steer Kotoko back to winning ways when they face Bibiani GoldStars in their Matchday 19 fixture at DUN’s Park on Sunday.
