Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has played down suggestions of a title-defining encounter ahead of his side’s rescheduled Ghana Premier League meeting with Bibiani GoldStars, insisting his focus remains firmly on his team’s performance.
Medeama travel to Dun’s Park sitting second on the table, level on points with leaders Asante Kotoko, while GoldStars are fifth and just two points off the summit, underlining the tight nature of the title race.
Despite the added significance surrounding the fixture, Tanko maintains that speculation about the championship will not influence his preparation, stressing that consistent point accumulation is more important than monitoring rivals.
“We have to think about our own game first. If we get a point or three there, we will definitely close the gap. We are not thinking about Kotoko, we are thinking about Bibiani GoldStars,” Tanko said.
GoldStars head into the clash with confidence, having won all seven of their home league matches this season and coming off a dramatic comeback victory over Dreams FC.
