Black Stars forward Prince Owusu has committed his future to CF Montréal after signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2028, with options to extend through the 2029 and 2030 seasons.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise since joining Montréal from Toronto FC earlier this year, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in the squad. His impact was underlined at the end of the 2025 MLS season when he was named the club’s Most Valuable Player.

Owusu finished the campaign with 17 goals across all competitions, becoming only the fifth player in CF Montréal’s history to score 15 or more goals in a single season — a return that cemented his importance to the club’s project.

“Montréal has become a special place for me,” Owusu said after signing the new deal. “Extending my contract with CF Montréal is a source of pride, and I’m grateful to the club’s sporting staff for its trust. I’m eager to continue this journey with my teammates and look forward to seeing our supporters again soon at Stade Saputo.”

His club form has also translated onto the international stage. Owusu earned his first Black Stars call-up in November, making his debut at the Kirin Cup against Japan, before also featuring against South Korea. He is now firmly in contention as he targets a place in Otto Addo’s squad ahead of the World Cup in North America.

CF Montréal’s management believes the extension reflects both Owusu’s influence on the pitch and his leadership off it.

“Prince’s contract extension represents an acknowledgement of the consistency that he has brought to the club since his arrival,” said Managing Director of Recruitment and Sporting Methodology Luca Saputo. “His on-field achievements routinely reflect the daily leadership he demonstrates to his teammates. We’re very pleased that he has committed to our project.”

German-born Owusu previously represented Germany at youth level before switching allegiance to Ghana, a decision that now appears to be paying dividends at both club and international level.
