Wilfred Ndidi has been officially named the new captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Ndidi, a defensive midfielder with Besiktas, takes over the reins from William Troost-Ekong and Ahmed Musa, who both retired from international duty.
“It’s a huge responsibility, but with the support of my teammates, I believe everything will go smoothly,” Ndidi said.
Ndidi, who previously served as vice-captain, has been instrumental in Nigeria’s recent matches and sees AFCON 2025 as a chance for redemption after missing out on the 2026 World Cup.
His assistants include Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, and Victor Osimhen. Nigeria is in Group C, alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania, and will kick off their campaign against Tanzania on December 23.
