“Sky is the limit” — Kassim Mingle sees bright future for Black Galaxies despite Bafana loss

Head coach of Ghana’s Black Galaxies, Kassim Mingle Ocansey, has expressed strong optimism about the team’s future after an impressive showing in their narrow defeat to South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.

The Black Galaxies were hosted by South Africa on Tuesday afternoon in a friendly encounter at the Dobsonville Stadium, as the hosts fine-tuned preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

A lone second-half strike from midfielder Sipho Mbule proved decisive, handing Bafana Bafana a 1-0 win in what was a competitive and closely contested match.

Although the result did not go Ghana’s way, Mingle was encouraged by the performance of his players, particularly given the limited preparation time ahead of the game.

With the domestic league still ongoing, the Black Galaxies boss admitted preparations were short but intense, adding that the friendly served as a major learning curve for his squad.

“This match opened our eyes,” Mingle said after the game. “We are putting together a very strong CHAN team. The boys competed well against a difficult opponent, and I believe the future is very bright for this group.”

The encounter marked Ghana’s final test before shifting attention to competitive action, with the Black Galaxies now turning focus to the 2026 African Nations Championship qualifiers as they continue to build a solid home-based team.
