GPL Preview: Hearts of Oak seek revival at home as Nations FC arrive for key clash

Ghana Premier League

Hearts of Oak return to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Saturday, December 13, 2025, desperate to steady their campaign when they take on Nations FC in an important Ghana Premier League fixture.

With pressure mounting, the Phobians know a positive result could be vital in arresting their recent slide and restoring belief among supporters.

The Accra giants are currently navigating a rough patch, having gone four matches without a win. Last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Karela United in Tamale compounded their woes and left them sitting 7th on the table with 21 points from 13 outings.

While results have dipped, Hearts still pride themselves on defensive solidity, conceding just six goals.

Home form, however, remains a major talking point. Hearts have managed only two wins in six matches at Legon, scoring four times and dropping points in fixtures they would normally expect to dominate.

Mas-Ud Didi Dramani will be hoping his side can finally turn the stadium into a fortress and inject momentum into their season as the title race begins to take shape.

Nations FC make the trip to Accra ranked 11th with 16 points, buoyed by a morale-boosting 2-1 comeback win over Heart of Lions last time out.

Frimpong Manso’s side have shown flashes of promise this term but inconsistency has prevented them from climbing higher up the standings.

Their biggest challenge remains their away record.

Nations are yet to win on the road this season, managing just one draw from six trips while conceding eight goals. Saturday’s encounter presents an opportunity to change that narrative, though the odds appear stacked against them.

Head-to-head history offers little separation between the two sides.

Since 2023, Hearts of Oak and Nations FC have each claimed one home victory in Accra, suggesting another closely fought contest could be on the cards.
