Former Black Stars icon Abedi Ayew Pele has been named to a newly formed Ministerial Advisory Board set up to guide the country’s sports and recreation agenda.

The nine-member team was officially introduced on Tuesday by Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams, who will serve as chair of the board.

The group brings together senior public officials, private-sector leaders and figures from civil society to support long-term policy planning across the sector.

Members of the board include Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah, Amb. Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu, Ms. Amerley Nuno-Amarteifio, Mr. Cleanse Tsonam Akpeloo, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Mr. Abedi Ayew Pele and Mr. Michael Esuon, who will act as secretary.

According to the Minister, the board is expected to function as a hands-on advisory body, offering direction in areas such as youth development, governance reforms, accountability structures and inclusive participation.

Mr. Adams revealed that work on the Sports Development Fund is almost complete and will soon be presented to Parliament to secure long-term financing for infrastructure and grassroots growth.

He expressed confidence that the blend of experience on the board would help position Ghana as a rising force in sports and recreation across the continent.

The Minister encouraged members to contribute bold, solution-driven proposals that match the country’s ambitions.
