Eleven Wonders’ ongoing struggles in the Ghana Premier League have taken a new twist after the sudden departure of head coach J. E. Sarpong, who walked away less than a month into the job.
His brief spell ended with the team still searching for their first league win and rooted to the bottom of the table.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Sarpong explained that he stepped aside to avoid being associated with a potential relegation. “Personally, I did not want a situation where it would be said that I was the one in charge when the team got relegated from the Premier League, so I had to make a decision to leave,” he said.
He also highlighted the harsh realities players face behind the scenes, describing unpaid wages, long stretches without proper meals, and transportation challenges.
“Players are not paid well and are not fed well. Sometimes, the players can go three days without eating.”
According to him, the difficulties extend beyond the pitch. “They have a poor transportation plan. The players are sometimes forced to use public transport, ‘trotro’, which is not good for the players.”
Now without a head coach, Wonders must quickly regroup as they host Dreams FC on Monday, December 1, in their Matchday 12 fixture.
