Ghanaian midfielder Abu Francis is set to be discharged from Toyota Memorial Hospital in Japan today, following successful surgery for a broken leg.
Francis, who plays for Toulouse FC, suffered the injury during Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup on November 14.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, confirmed Francis’ condition has significantly improved, and he’ll begin rehabilitation in Toulouse. A GFA official will accompany him to France.
Francis fractured two bones in an awkward twist while attempting to block a shot.
He’s expected to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to the lengthy recovery period.
“Francis Abu’s condition has significantly improved. As anticipated, the surgery yielded excellent results, and the player’s spirits are high. The initial rehabilitation is proceeding as planned, and he is expected to be discharged this weekend.
“Gratitude is expressed to the surgeons at the Toyota Memorial Hospital in Japan, the medical staff of the Black Stars, led by Dr. Prince Pambo, and the medical team at Toulouse FC. Abu will make a strong comeback,” GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum wrote on Facebook.
