“We Struggled with Our High Press” – Otto Addo on Black Stars’ 1-0 Loss to South Korea

Ghana head coach Otto Addo admitted that his team faced challenges deploying a high press in Tuesday’s 1-0 friendly defeat to South Korea, despite goalkeeper Benjamin Asare keeping the scoreline close with a penalty save in the 74th minute.

Speaking after the match, Addo highlighted the Black Stars’ inefficiency in front of goal and difficulties pressing South Korea high up the pitch.

“Except for the Brazil game, South Korea don’t concede many goals anymore and are very compact,” Addo said. “They play with three at the back and often overload one side, which makes it difficult to press without the right timing and positioning.”

He added: “Especially in the first half, we had problems deciding when and who should press. The players haven’t played together for long, so the timing wasn’t right. That allowed South Korea more possession and chances in the opening period.
