Asante Kotoko coach Karim Zito has taken aim at the Ghana Premier League’s demanding Wednesday-to-Sunday fixture pattern, insisting the congested calendar is wearing his players down.
After their involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup, Kotoko have been pushed into a cycle of midweek catch-up games followed quickly by weekend league duties.
That rhythm has now produced two straight draws, including the stalemate with Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
“I saw tiredness within the boys and this is the league, we have to play,” Zito said at the post-match interview.
“I even said the FA should look into it in future because Dreams FC passed through this and nearly went to relegation, same for Samartex.
“Wednesday-Sunday [fixtures], we are not Europeans. They have energy, what they eat and the tablet they take, not to dope them but to give them what the body here cannot give you.
“Seriously, I don’t think it’s fair.”
Kotoko sit sixth on the table with 16 points and will take on Young Apostles in their outstanding fixture on November 19.
