Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, says Ghana’s impressive sporting achievements in 2025 are the result of deliberate reforms and targeted investment; not mere coincidence.

Speaking at the 50th SWAG Anniversary Awards in Accra, Adams declared boldly: 2025 is no accident ;  we engineered this success.”

He explained that Ghana’s progress across key sporting disciplines; including athletics, football, boxing, aquatics, hockey and racquet sports is tied directly to a two-year reform agenda implemented by the Ministry and its national federations.

According to the Minister, the nation’s recent milestones such as:

  • The Black Stars’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,

  • The Black Queens’ revival and qualification for major competitions,

  • UDS’ global triumph at university-level competitions, and

  • Consistent improvements across Olympic sports,

are all indicators of a coordinated national strategy to rebuild Ghana’s global sporting relevance.

“Our athletes have excelled across disciplines, and Ghana has repositioned itself as a credible force in African and global sport,” he said, adding that federations have now become “more professional, more disciplined, and more accountable.”

Adams emphasised that the Ministry’s reforms focused on funding transparency, athlete welfare, grassroots development and infrastructure upgrades are now yielding measurable results.

“This performance is the product of policy, preparation and discipline — not luck,” he stressed.

He concluded with a call to action, urging all stakeholders to stay committed:
“We must build on this foundation and resist the temptation to relax. Success rewards consistency.”
