The University for Development Studies (UDS) football team has been crowned SWAG Football Personality of the Year, a major recognition of their rising dominance in Ghana’s tertiary football landscape.
UDS enjoyed a standout year, winning the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Football Competition, where they impressed with a high-intensity, tactically disciplined style.
Their performances extended beyond the GUSA Games, as they also excelled in national tertiary championships such as UPAC Football and the Private Universities Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG) invitational tournaments, reinforcing their reputation as the country’s most consistent university football side.
The Tamale-based institution has also become a strong talent pipeline, producing players who have attracted interest from Ghana Premier League and Division One League clubs. Their modern developmental approach emphasizing athleticism, structured coaching, and competitive exposure; has helped bridge the gap between grassroots football and the professional game.
UDS’ triumph at the 50th SWAG Awards is a testament not only to their success on the field but also to the growing influence of university football in Ghana’s broader sporting ecosystem.
