Ghana’s Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson is pleased with the performance of his side despite losing the finals to Nigeria in the WAFU U-20 Girls Cup.
The team played four matches in total, winning both games against hosts Benin while losing the other two encounters against Nigeria.
Ghana conceded six goals in their losses and managed just one, but scored four goals across the two games with Benin.
Head Coach Charles Sampson reflected positively on his squad’s showing. “I’m very, very satisfied with many things, but our lack of concentration to concede a goal like this, of course, is a hard one to take in.
“But the purpose of coming here is also to see certain things about us that we need to develop and also to see how we handle different situations,” he said.
He added: “With that said, I’m very, very happy that we’re able to experience this while we have something great ahead of us, which we are looking forward to.”
Ghana had won the inaugural edition of the tournament in Kumasi two years ago, defeating Nigeria in the final.
The recent competition also provided Sampson an opportunity to assess his players and make preparations ahead of the upcoming FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
