Ghana international Mohammed Kudus is set to miss this month’s Kirin Cup tournament after sustaining a knock during last week’s Premier League clash against Chelsea.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was sidelined for his side’s UEFA Champions League victory over Copenhagen and also failed a late fitness test ahead of their league encounter with Manchester United.

Although the injury was initially described as minor, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has opted to leave Kudus out of the squad for the upcoming friendlies against Japan and South Korea, allowing the player time to fully recover.

“Mo (Kudus) got the knock, just couldn’t make it for this. I really expected it to be a short one. It was just too short a turnaround from the Chelsea game which was just a week ago, so I’m quite confident he will be ready for the next game,” said Spurs boss Thomas Frank ahead of the United match.

Kudus, who famously netted a brace against South Korea at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has enjoyed a bright start to life in North London, scoring once and providing four assists in the Premier League so far this season.

His absence offers Otto Addo a chance to assess other attacking options as Ghana prepare for the two international fixtures.
