Ghana’s Black Princesses could not build on their bright start to the WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup as they fell 3–1 to rivals Nigeria in their second group game on Saturday.
The game began with Ghana on the front foot as the defending champions created early chances through Mary Amponsah and Linda Owusu Ansah but couldn’t make them count.
Their dominance faded after a penalty decision went Nigeria’s way following a handball by Ivy Osei Owusu. Jenat Akeremkowei converted from the spot to hand the Falconets the lead.
Minutes later, a miscommunication in Ghana’s defense allowed Nigeria to double their advantage before the break.
Sarah Nyarko pulled one back shortly after halftime with a composed finish from Diana Amoako’s assist, but despite Ghana’s improved display, the Nigerians sealed victory late on through Favour Nkwocha.
The defeat leaves Ghana needing a result in their final group match against Benin on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 10:00 GMT.
The Princesses had opened their title defense with a 2–0 win over Benin on Friday, thanks to goals from Linda Owusu Ansah and Sarah Nyarko.
