Black Queens coach Kim Lars Björkegren has set his sights firmly on qualifying Ghana for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, stating that a top-four finish at the next Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is non-negotiable.
Speaking after Ghana’s impressive run to a third-place finish at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, Björkegren said the team’s focus is now on going even further and competing for the continental title.
“We absolutely can do it,” Björkegren affirmed. “That will be our goal to reach the top four and do everything we can to win the tournament.”
The Swedish tactician has revitalized the Black Queens since taking charge, emphasizing attacking football, tactical discipline, and team unity. His blend of structure and flair has brought renewed optimism to Ghanaian women’s football, with many tipping the team to reclaim its place among Africa’s elite.
As Ghana prepares for the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers, Björkegren’s ambition and self-belief could be the catalyst that drives the Black Queens toward their first World Cup appearance since 2007.
