The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has hosted a one-day capacity-building workshop for Match Commissioners of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League (WPL) in preparation for the 2025/26 season, which officially kicks off on Friday, October 31, 2025.
The session, held at the GFA Secretariat in Accra, was part of the Association’s ongoing professional development initiative designed to improve officiating standards, streamline match administration, and promote consistency across the women’s top flight.
Opening the programme, GFA Vice President Mark Addo commended the Match Commissioners for their continued dedication to Ghana football and stressed the significance of their role in maintaining integrity and professionalism throughout the league.
He encouraged them to “continue discharging their duties with fairness, diligence and commitment to excellence,” reminding participants that their actions directly influence the credibility of the competition.
Head of Women’s Football, Barbara Yankah, provided a detailed briefing on expectations and structural improvements for the upcoming season, while Joel Ahadzie walked participants through updates on the Competition Management System (CMS).
Integrity Officer Obed Tuffuor led a practical session on ethics and fair play, reiterating the GFA’s zero-tolerance policy on match-fixing and administrative misconduct.
The attendees also reviewed the latest updates to the Laws of the Game, ensuring all officials are aligned with international standards.
Wrapping up the event, GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo praised the Commissioners’ professionalism and urged them to uphold consistency and transparency as women’s football in Ghana continues to evolve.
The workshop reinforces the GFA’s commitment to building capacity and strengthening operational structures across women’s football, setting a confident tone for what is expected to be an exciting 2025/26 Malta Guinness WPL season.
