Minister of Sports and Recreation , Kofi Adams, says the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo will be determined through a joint decision involving all key football stakeholders, not by his ministry alone.
The 49-year-old tactician, who failed to qualify Ghana for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, recently guided the Black Stars to their fifth FIFA World Cup following a narrow 1–0 victory over Comoros in Accra.
Despite securing qualification, Addo’s future remains uncertain amid growing criticism over the team’s inconsistent displays.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr. Adams explained that any decision regarding Addo’s position will take several factors into account.
“If you listen to Otto Addo, he said he will try a lot of legs to know who will go or not. But I believe the management and everybody involved in hiring the coach will consider a lot of factors,” he said.
“I pay him, but it is not my decision alone. The GFA has a role to play, and going forward, we will have all these conversations.”
The Minister, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Buem, urged Ghanaians to continue supporting Addo, citing Ivory Coast’s AFCON success earlier this year as an example of resilience.
“Ivory Coast sacked their coach during AFCON, and their assistant coach, Emerse Faé, led them to win it. If you are determined, you can bring success. At this moment, he is our coach, and we have to support him,” he added.
Otto Addo recently made history by becoming the first coach to guide Ghana to back-to-back World Cup tournaments, having also qualified the team for Qatar 2022.
The Black Stars will find out their group-stage opponents for the 2026 World Cup on December 5 in Washington, D.C.
