Chairman of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, has applauded the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and MTN Ghana for their continued dedication to youth football development in the country.

Speaking at the official launch of the maiden edition of the competition in Accra on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Ketu North MP commended the GFA under Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku for prioritizing structured youth development as part of Ghana’s football revival.

Hon. Agbana described the championship as a “springboard” for nurturing emerging talents from all corners of the nation.

“This initiative is a springboard for unearthing and refining young talents across the country,” he said. “It will provide players, especially those from underserved communities, the chance to gain exposure, develop discipline, and build careers in football.”

He also praised MTN Ghana for its long-term investment in the sport, saying the company’s support reflects a strong national commitment to youth empowerment and football excellence.

Hon. Agbana additionally congratulated the Black Stars for qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, calling their success “a symbol of Ghana’s resilience and renewed football excellence.”

The MTN Elite U-19 Championship will take place from October 23 to November 2, 2025, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. The 11-day event will feature ten Regional Football Association (RFA) U-19 teams showcasing some of Ghana’s brightest young prospects.

Backed by the GFA and proudly sponsored by MTN, the competition forms part of the Association’s “Power to the Youth” initiative ; a roadmap for grooming young players from grassroots football to the national level.

“This is your stage,” Hon. Agbana urged the players. “Train hard, stay humble, and remember that talent opens the door, but character keeps it open.”
