GFA Rolls Out Football4Girls in Takoradi Schools

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expanded its grassroots drive for women’s football with the rollout of the Football4Girls programme in the Takoradi Metropolitan area.

The initiative, a core part of the GFA Women’s Football Strategy, is designed to give girls a platform to play, nurture their passion, and explore pathways in the game, from players and referees to coaches, administrators and beyond.

Ten schools took part in the launch: Bedu Addo Methodist Basic, Takoradi Presby Primary, Bishop O’Rorke Anglican, All Saints Anglican, Woode Methodist, Korsah Complex, Bethel Methodist Basic, Perry Hayford, Axim Road Primary and Bishop Essuah Catholic.

The day mixed educational sessions with friendly matches, helping the girls not only understand football opportunities but also enjoy the sport, build confidence, and create lasting friendships.

Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, Head of Women’s Football Development at the GFA, called the programme “part of a revolution in grassroots women’s football,” stressing its role in driving participation and breaking barriers for young girls.

The GFA insists that Football4Girls is more than a one-off project. It is a pillar of the Women’s Football Strategy, aimed at inspiring the next generation and ensuring a vibrant, sustainable future for women’s football in Ghana.
