Ghana’s U17 side, the Black Starlets, will renew their rivalry with Nigeria after being drawn against the Golden Eaglets in the semi-final of the WAFU U17 Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The much-anticipated clash is set for Tuesday, September 30, at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.
Nigeria booked their spot after topping Group B with a goalless draw against Burkina Faso on Saturday, while Ghana sealed second place in Group A with a 3-1 comeback win over Niger; Kagawa Mensah and Robinho Yao Gavi scoring late to complete the turnaround.
The Black Starlets are chasing a ticket to the 2025 Africa U17 Cup of Nations, with victory in the semi-final enough to guarantee qualification. Ghana last featured in the continental tournament in 2017, when they finished runners-up before advancing to the World Cup quarter-finals.
In the other semi-final, hosts Ivory Coast will battle Burkina Faso, with the winners of both ties advancing to Friday’s final.
Ghana boasts a rich pedigree at U17 level, having twice won both the FIFA U17 World Cup and the Africa U17 Cup of Nations.
