The Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi is set to host Sarkodie’s Rapperholic Concert on September 27, 2025, amidst concerns about the timing and potential impact on the pitch.
The stadium is also scheduled to host Asante Kotoko SC and Bibiani Gold Stars’ CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup matches, pending CAF approval.
Sarkodie, whose real name is Michael Owusu Addo, visited the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to seek his blessing for the concert.
The rapper told the King, “For nearly 12 years, I’ve been planning to bring Rapperholic to Kumasi. This year, I felt it was finally time. I came to humbly ask for your blessing and support, Nana.”
The Asantehene blessed Sarkodie’s music journey and promised to attend the concert, advising him to “stay humble and true to yourself.”
To mitigate potential damage to the pitch, the National Sports Authority has confirmed that only the inner perimeter of the stadium will be used for the event setup. Despite concerns, fans are excited for the concert, which represents a rare cultural moment in Kumasi.
The event will test the coordination between sports, entertainment, and infrastructure management in Ghana.
