Black Satellites defender Aaron Essel says Ghana is treating Sunday’s U-20 AFCON quarter-final clash against Egypt as a make-or-break moment, with qualification to the FIFA U-20 World Cup hanging in the balance.
Speaking ahead of the crunch encounter at the New Suez Stadium, the center-back emphasized the team’s hunger and focus: “The field will decide who wins, and we are determined to make sure it’s Ghana.”
Ghana, four-time champions at this level, are seeking to return to their former dominance on the youth stage.

Victory over the hosts would not only secure a semi-final place but also confirm a spot at the World Cup.
Essel credited the calm, focused atmosphere in camp and praised head coach Desmond Ofei’s preparations.
“There’s no pressure on us. We’ve prepared well and are approaching the game with a strong mentality,” he noted.
With Egypt playing at home in front of their fans, the Black Satellites expect a tough battle—but one they believe they are ready to win.
