President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has called on the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to find and prosecute those responsible for the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan, Pooley.

The appeal was made during the 24th anniversary of the May 9th Stadium Disaster held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Mr. Okraku described Pooley’s death as a painful reminder of the need to prioritize the safety of football fans.

Pooley was reportedly killed during a league match incident in Nsoatre, a case that has stirred national outrage and grief within the football community.

He stressed the GFA’s commitment to working with all stakeholders to eliminate hooliganism and violence in football, noting that while progress has been made in infrastructure and regulation, achieving justice for victims remains essential in restoring trust in the game.

The event was attended by top football and government officials, including the Sports Minister, GFA Executive Council members, representatives of Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, and families of May 9 victims.

The commemoration reaffirmed the football fraternity’s dedication to the “Never Again” pledge in preventing future tragedies.
