AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: AS Roma youngster Felix Afena-Gyan scores debut Ghana goal –

AS Roma striker Felix Afena Gyan has scored his first international goal for Ghana in their 3-0 win over Madagascar in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at home. 

The 19-year-old poked home from close range in the 56th minute to give the Black Stars a deserved cushion against the the Barea at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus broke the deadlock early in the second half after a resolute defensive display from the visitors ensured the ended the first half goalless.

Kudus, 21, scored from an unfavourite right foot after he slotted home from three yards after a remarkable run-in down the flank by Dennis Odoi.

The former Nordsjælland star has the simplest task of smashing home from close range to give the Ghanaians a well deserved lead.

Cometh the hour, cometh the moment for youngster Felix Afena-Gyan, who connected with a tap-in t0 hand the four-time African champions a two-goal lead.

Nantes forward Osman Bukari rounded off goalkeeper Nina Razakanirina to seal victory for the Black Stars.

This is a memorable moment for the AS Roma youngster Afena-Gyan, who scores his first international goal for Ghana in three matches.

He earned a famous debut call-up against Ghana’s eternal rivals Nigeria in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Black Stars, who are pooled in Group F of the qualifiers, are likely to assume top position after Angola came from behind to defeat the Central African Republic 2-1 in Wednesday’s earlier game.

The team is in cruise control to bag their first win for the Black Stars in six matches since their 1-0 win over South Africa in a controversial World Cup qualifier back in November, 2021.
