Carlo Ancelotti: We deserved to win the Champions League

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti believes his team “deserved” to win the Champions League this season owing to the strength of their opponents.

Los Blancos had to beat PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City to reach the final on Saturday, before defeating Liverpool 1-0 to win the cup for the 14th time in their history.

Ancelotti has become the competition’s most successful manager, having won the title four times in total, including twice with Real Madrid.

The Italian could not contain his joy at the final whistle, praising his goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’s “unbelievable” performance, which included a number of saves.

“I cannot believe it. I think that we had a fantastic season, and we did really well. It was a difficult game… we deserved to win the competition with all the games that we have played. We are really happy. I cannot say more,” Ancelotti told BT Sport shortly after the final whistle.

“I think we passed through really difficult games… I am really happy that the fans are happy.”

In the French capital, Vinicius Junior scored the game’s sole goal, and Real Madrid completed a double this season, having also won La Liga at the end of April.
