CK Akonnor denies interest in Asante Kotoko coaching Position

Former Black Stars coach, Charles Kwabena Akonnor, has refuted reports suggesting he is seeking to replace the currently embattled Asante Kotoko trainer, Prosper Nartey Ogum.

Speculation in the Ghanaian media had indicated that the 50-year-old experienced coach was interested in the role following the club’s poor performance in the second half of the season.

Despite calls from ardent fans for the dismissal of Ogum, the life Patron of Asante Kotoko, Osei Tutu II, has continued to support the current coach.

However, in an interview with Graphic Sports, Akonnor dismissed the rumors linking him to the position as baseless.

“I was mad when I saw it because I didn’t say anything like that.

“I didn’t say I was interested in coaching the team so I later called the guy who granted the interview and he also denied it and said it was the bloggers who just twisted the story just to get attention,” he clarified.

Akonnor managed Kotoko during the 2018/2019 season before taking up the Black Stars coaching role.
