What we did at Asante Kotoko was not fully understood – Herbert Mensah

Former Asante Kotoko board chairman, Herbert Mensah, believes his works at the club were not fully understood or it was not just being appreciated by the publics.

The now Rugby Africa president was appointed board chair of the Porcupine Warriors between 1999 and 2003, spending about four years at the club.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2023 African Games, Mensah compared his ideas he tried to implement at the club to a national plan that would fix the fundaments.

“What we did at Kumasi Asante was not fully understood or appreciated,” he said.

“But let me explain, I think as a national policy, it changes things fundamentally. Get the right technical people and make sure they are not coaches.”

Herbert Mensah tried to bring in a five-year plan, which he didn’t have enough time to implement and see it become a success.

Despite his efforts, Mensah encountered an uneasy relationship with the Kotoko Board led by Mr. P. V. Obeng.

Mensah’s leadership was praised by veteran sports journalist Kwabena Yeboah for transforming the club and Ghanaian professional football.
