Kompany left frustrated with referee as Jurgen Klopp backs up Burnley manager’s reaction during Liverpool’s 3-1 win

Vincent Kompany believes that Jurgen Klopp’s booking during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Burnley led to him also receiving a yellow card.

Klopp was cautioned by referee Tim Robinson at Anfield for his protests after the Reds were not awarded a penalty for a foul on Diogo Jota. Kompany was also cautioned by the official, marking his third yellow card of the season and resulting in him missing Burnley’s clash against Arsenal next weekend.

Following his side’s 17th Premier League defeat of the season, he hinted that Klopp’s booking influenced Robinson to also caution him, possibly as a way to “balance it out.”

In Kompany’s post-match reaction, he frustratingly claimed: “I think I got booked because I should have paid attention to the fact that Jurgen Klopp got booked because then all I think the referee did was just went looking for me.”

“Now I am suspended for the next game [against Arsenal],” he added.

Klopp himself questioned the reasoning behind his counterpart receiving a yellow card and even jokingly referenced recent reports suggesting the introduction of a blue card, potentially leading to a sin-bin.

“Imagine in this game and the referee has a blue card available?,” he said.

“I had no clue why Vincent Kompany got it. I lost it in that situation so fine, give me a yellow card.”

What will be even more frustrating for Burnley is that they are now level on points with bottom of the table Sheffield United after their resounding 3-1 win away at Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.
