2023 AFCON: ‘It was our dream to bring trophy back home’ – GFA boss Kurt Okraku

Ghana FA President, Kurt Okraku, has expressed his disappointment at the Black Stars’ failure to win the Africa Cup of Nations title, stating that “it was the team’s dream” to bring the trophy back home.

The trophy drought now extends to 42 years after Ghana’s group stage exit at the continental showpiece.

“Our hope, our dream was to bring the trophy back home. It didn’t work out and we can’t be disappointed enough,” Okraku said at the meet the press event.

“Management and technical decisions have seen us reflect on our work as a team. To reflect on what policies to help bring back the love and glory for the country,” he added.

Despite the setback, Okraku remains confident that the GFA can turn things around and make positive changes to enhance the sport in Ghana.

Yves Charles Ebonda has just informed us that he got a call from a United official on Friday enquiring about Adjei’s availability and what he would cost them. Ebonda, because he is in South Africa, represents Meir Rifman, who is a Fifa-licensed agent based in Israel, where Adjei used to play for FC Ashdod. Ebonda will be the go-between when negotiations start and says: “I called Rifman and he asked me to tell Maritzburg to tell us what they can afford. They will call me over the weekend after they have decided what they are willing to pay for Adjei.” Adjei is back in Ghana after leaving FC Ashdod, where he was a regular. He is now at Hearts of Oak, the club coached by former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs coach Kosta Papic. He joined them in April on a short-term contract, but a Hearts official has recently accused Adjei of an attitude problem while speaking to KickOffGhana.com. Maritzburg have no keeper at the moment.
