2023 Africa Cup of Nations: I don’t want to relive the Cameroon experience – Alexander Djiku

Ghana’s defender, Alexander Djiku, expressed his disappointment over Ghana’s performance in the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, labeling it as the worst experience of his career.

The Black Stars faced a premature exit from the competition, failing to secure a victory, including a surprising 2-3 loss to Comoros.

Speaking in a post-game press conference after Ghana’s recent 1-2 loss to Cape Verde in the opening game of the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire, Djiku, despite being named Man of the Match, reflected on the challenging times in the previous tournament.

Looking ahead, Djiku stressed the importance of avoiding a repeat of the 2021 experience.

“I was in the team during the last AFCON; our elimination in the first round remains the worst memory of my career, and I don’t want to relive that,” Djiku emphasized.

Egypt, having drawn 2-2 with Mozambique in their opening game in Group B at this year’s AFCON, adds an additional layer of significance to Ghana’s upcoming match as they strive to recover and make a strong impact in the tournament.
